ADEQ seeks input on mining permits

KINGMAN - The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is considering issuing air quality permits for Denison Mines (USA) Corp. for three underground uranium mines. Two of the mines, Pinenut and EZ Mine, are located in Northern Mohave County about 35 miles south of Fredonia.

The third, Canyon Mine, is located 6.5 miles southeast of Tusayan in Coconino County.

Denison is also requesting a discharge authorization permit for the EZ Mine to operate a non-storm water impoundment pond to collect discharge from the mines.

Information regarding the permits is available at ADEQ's office at 1110 W. Washington St., Phoenix and at the Mohave County Clerk's Office at 700 W. Beale St, Kingman. They are also available online at

ADEQ will hold two public hearings to answer questions on the permits at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Sinagua Middle School, 3950 E. Butler Ave., Flagstaff, and at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Fredonia High School, 221 E. Horrt, Fredonia.

The department will also collect oral comments on the permits at two public meetings at 6 p.m. on Jan. 4 at Fredonia High School and at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 at Sinagua Middle School.
