Wayne and Joyce Hendricks met in El Cajon, Calif., in 1949. Wayne was a sailor. He and his friend came out to El Cajon from San Diego. He first saw Joyce in an ice cream parlor. Wayne and his friend followed the girls to the skating rink, where he paid a kid, Jerry, 25-cents to introduce him to Joyce.
They were engaged for about six months and married Aug. 26, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in El Cajon. Two years later, they had Brenda, then three years later, Bryan was born. They now have five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who they are very proud of.
They lived in California for 30 years then moved to Colorado, where they lived until coming to Golden Valley 23 years ago.
Wayne and Joyce have been members of Golden Valley Baptist church since moving there. They say the secret to a long marriage is keeping the Lord first.
