Two suspected of child abuse
KINGMAN - A Kingman mother and her live-in boyfriend were arrested earlier this week after a school nurse noticed severe bruising on a 7-year-old child.
The boy was at school Wednesday when he went to the nurse complaining that he wasn't feeling well. The nurse contacted the school resource officer after she saw the bruises.
Kingman Police Capt. Rusty Cooper said investigations found that the boy had been hit by a belt the day before by 32-year-old Ryan Keith Deck, the mother's live-in boyfriend.
Deck was arrested Thursday and booked into the Mohave County Jail on felony charges of child abuse and aggravated assault per domestic violence.
The boy's mother, 27-year-old Jennifer E. Clement, was also arrested and booked into jail on felony charges of failure to protect. Cooper said the mother not only knew about the beating but instructed her son to lie about how he got the bruises.
The boy and a 2-year-old sibling were removed from the home and placed into the custody of Child Protective Services.
