For a Wounded Kingman Warrior
Several veterans groups recently raised funds for Cpl. Jordan Maynard, the Kingman Marine who was severely injured in Afghanistan in March. Maynard is now in San Diego with his wife and child undergoing rehabilitation. They secured base housing, and Maynard is now an outpatient, which has served him well. However, doctors and nurses told him to expect to stay in San Diego for at least a year as he gets used to prosthetics. The Kingman Veterans Memorial Trust (KVMT) raised a total of $4,862.90. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10386 raised $600. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 975 raised $100. From left to right at Beale Street Brews Friday morning are Mark Catt, vice chairman for Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council of Mohave County and commander for the VFW, Sharon Wass, owner of Sharon's Fireside Lounge (where the KVMT fundraiser was held), Rick Shelby, commandant of Dean W. Reiter Detachment 887 Marine Corps League, Chelsea Curry, Maynard's sister, who has organized a lot of fundraisers for him, and Ralph McKie, president of VVA Chapter 975 and a member of the JAVCMC. The Marine Corps League, JAVCMC and KVMT were sponsors for the Fireside fundraiser. For more information on the KVMT, call Shelby, one of the trustees for the trust, at (928) 266-3600.
