'I'm guilty of sex abuse': Kingman man enters plea
KINGMAN - A 46-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he molested a young girl over a period of several years.
The girl, now 18, went to police earlier this year and told them she was coming forward out of fear that the same thing would happen to her 6-year-old sister.
Prosecutors said Richard Gilbert admits that he touched the girl over a period of time that ended four years ago when she was 14. Family members allegedly knew about the abuse and confronted Gilbert several years ago but did not contact authorities.
Gilbert's guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Gilbert agreed to plead guilty to one count of attempted molestation of a child in exchange for lifetime probation, which will include registering as a sexual offender. Judge Derek Carlisle can also impose up to a year in jail as a term of probation when Gilbert is sentenced next month.
