Michael "Mikee" Nelson was born March 23, 1960, in San Diego, and passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, in San Diego. He was the son of Ruth V. Nelson and the late Ronald A Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna L. Nelson; his son, Tyrus Nelson; and three stepchildren, Nicole, Jessica and James. He is also survived by his aunt, Karen Chavez of San Diego; uncle, Frank Laskowsky of Wheatridge, Colo.; cousins, Michelle (Jim) Shane and Carson (Elaine) Honings of San Diego, and Sharon (Wayne) Kademan and Anita (Ed) Franko of Colorado, along with many more relatives.

Mikee spent four years in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1979 to 1983. He has spent many years working with individuals with developmental disabilities. His last employer was the ARC of San Diego. He loved to work out at the gym as often as possible and he loved to write poetry and short stories. He recently developed a passion for painting.

There will be a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home, 1701 Stockton Hill Road, Kingman, and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canyon Community Church, 3270 N. Harvard St., Kingman, AZ 86409-3527 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3958 N. Bank St., Kingman, AZ 86409-2727.
