Alleged stabbing by hitchhiker

KINGMAN - The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report by a Dolan Springs man who said he was assaulted over the weekend by a hitchhiker he had picked up.

The 71-year-old man said he picked up the hitchhiker on U.S. 93 as he was headed back to Dolan Springs around noon Sunday.

The hitchhiker told the man that he was traveling from Arkansas to Las Vegas and then on to Utah. Mohave County Sheriff's Spokeswoman Trish Carter said the men decided to hang out together and went back to the home of the Dolan Springs man to drink.

Around 4:15 p.m., the man placed a 911 call saying that he had been stabbed and that his truck was gone. The man told deputies that the hitchhiker got angry with him, went to the kitchen to retrieve a knife and stabbed him before locking him in a bathroom. The man emerged a short time later and found that his car keys were missing.

Carter said the man's 2008 Ford Ranger was later located by authorities in St. George, Utah. The suspect is still outstanding. He is described as a white male adult, 5-foot-10, medium-build, with dark short hair and a short white beard. No age range was available for the suspect.

The victim was treated for a wound to the back of his neck as well as several stab wounds to his abdomen.
