Kingman Area School Retirees' Association: Pictured from left to right are KASRA members Mary Lee Hall, Violet Tribbett, Linda Kocher and Steve Kocher. At far right is Deb Warren, assistant principal at Black Mountain Elementary School and winner of KASRA's 2011-2012 mini-grant. The group is assembled behind a large array of school supplies, which were contributed along with cash donations by KASRA members to the annual school supply drive. At KASRA's July meeting, we enjoyed a tasty lunch and discussed several agenda items, including planning for our annual membership drive/potluck, "Ditch Day" in September and our entry into the Andy Devine Days Parade. A report was given on the June AASRA state convention and our unit was recognized with several group and individual awards. Deb Warren told us how she used her grant funds to purchase supplies to start up a track and field team at Black Mountain. Track and field is a no-cut sport with all team members eligible to compete as long as they maintain the required grades. The response from the students was impressive as they enjoyed many new experiences and met lots of fellow students from around the area. Steve and Linda Kocher presented a slide show with beautiful photos of their 2011 European tour. KASRA will meet again from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at member Tommie Upton's Hidden Pines Bed and Breakfast. Members are asked to bring dishes to share potluck style. Retirees from any educational institution in whatever capacity are most welcome to attend. If you have questions, please call Roxie Marolf at 757-5492 or Duane Nelson at 692-1416.
