McKee exits race for U.S. Senate, eyes bid for House
Mohave County businessman Doug McKee has bowed out of the race for U.S. Senate and is running for the U.S. House of Representatives District 1 seat in Arizona.
Wil Cardon, a Republican candidate for the Senate, announced in a news release Friday that McKee had left the race and was endorsing Cardon as the U.S. Senate candidate.
McKee confirmed the announcement in a phone call and said the two campaigns sat down and determined that Cardon had a better shot at the Senate seat.
"I'm supporting his run for Senate and he's supporting my run for District 1," McKee said.
"It is great to have Doug's support. We have spent a lot of time together on the campaign trail and he has great ideas for Arizona," Cardon said.
If he's elected, McKee will have his work cut out for him. Arizona's District 1 takes up most of the eastern half of the state. It starts at the eastern border of Mohave County and runs through parts of Coconino, Apache, Navajo, Greenlee, Gila, Graham, Pinal counties.
