Obituary: Carol Bernice Cedar Amelinckx
Dr. Carol Cedar Amelinckx, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 24, 2012, in Kingman. Dr. Amelinckx was born on Feb. 20, 1932, in Omaha, Neb., and grew up in South Dakota and Minnesota.
In 1959, while she was teaching English at a mission in Venezuela, she met and married Dr. Frans C. Amelinckx, and they later moved to the United States.
Dr. Amelinckx received her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL, now ULL) and later taught English there. She moved to Kingman in early 2011.
Carol will long be remembered for her strong Christian faith, loving spirit, engaging personality and warm smile.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Frans C. Amelinckx, who passed away in 2010, and her parents, the Rev. Carl Benjamin Cedar and Berniece Cedar.
She is survived by two sons, Alan Amelinckx and his wife, Jackie, of Liège, Belgium, and Andrew Amelinckx and his wife, Kara, of Catskill, N.Y.; one daughter, Andréa Amelinckx and her partner René of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; five grandchildren, John-Henry, Louis Frans and Willa Amelinckx and Erik and Regis Amelinckx; two brothers, the Rev. John (Dian) Cedar of Andover, Minn., and the Rev. Paul (Jeannie) Cedar of Cathedral City, Calif.; two sisters; Ellen (Lyle) Jones of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Mary (Chuck, predeceased) Hall of Kingman; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A Christian memorial celebration of the life of Dr. Amelinckx will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Kingman Presbyterian Church, 2425 Detroit Ave.
