Alleged assault lands Golden Valley man in custody

A 23-year-old Golden Valley man was arrested Friday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Sheriff's deputies said they noticed marks around the 29-year-old victim's neck but her boyfriend, Gregory Murphy, told them he choked her "for only a split second."

The assault reportedly occurred after 7 p.m. on Friday in the 3500 block of West Chino Drive.

The woman said Murphy got upset with her, choked her, banged her head against the refrigerator and bit her nose. The woman had a swollen and cut nose along with marks on her neck, Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

Murphy reportedly said that his girlfriend punched him and that he only had both hands around her neck for a moment.

Deputies allegedly found Murphy to be in possession of drug paraphernalia consisting of syringes, a spoon and a plastic bag containing a white residue.

He was booked into the Mohave County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault - impede breathing per domestic violence, aggravated assault per domestic violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
