A 23-year-old Kingman man who was jumping into traffic on Stockton Hill Road just before midnight last Friday is believed to have been under the influence of drugs.

An officer located Sergio Gortariz in the 3200 block of Stockton Hill Road after passing motorists called 911. Capt. Rusty Cooper said the officer drew his service weapon and ordered Gortariz to the ground when Gortariz reportedly brandished a knife.

Cooper said Gortariz then threw the knife at the ground and charged at the officer. He said the officer was able to block Gortariz and knock him to the ground.

A Mohave County Sheriff's deputy who witnessed the exchange stopped to help take Gortariz into custody.

He was booked into the Mohave County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault on a police officer. Cooper said Gortariz continued to fight with corrections officers at the jail as he was being processed.
