Steven Frank Witt, 54, left this world on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, in Phoenix, Ariz. Steve was a third-generation Arizonan born in Kingman on Oct. 25, 1958. He attended school in Kingman, graduated in Phoenix Greenway High School's first graduating class in 1976 and attended ASU.
From the seventh grade on, Steve was a paper carrier for the Arizona Republic newspaper in both Kingman and Phoenix. He earned many awards for this service, including many trips to Disneyland. He was Newspaper Boy of the Month several times and once was Newspaper Boy of the Year. His services gave him an Arizona Republic scholarship, which he used to attend ASU.
Steve was active in the Republican Party from the age of 18 when he worked on the Jack Londen Campaign for governor of Arizona. His association with the Londen Insurance Group continued over the next 36 years as public relations manager. He was also manager for numerous other organizations. At one time he was publicity chairman for the Arizona State Republican Party.
Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved sailing his Catalina 25 on Lake Pleasant. He hiked all over the valley and was proud to complete three Phoenix Summit Challenge hikes.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Emma Kayser; his paternal grandparents, the Rev. Rupert G. and Ruby Witt; his father, George Austin Witt; and his sisters, Cindy Blackstock and Laurie Diamond.
He is survived by his mother, Georgie Ann Wetherill of Phoenix; his brother, Mike Witt (Janice) of Wilhoit, Ariz.; his sister, Melanie David (Patrick) of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; his girlfriend, Patti Ritter; his faithful companion, Rocque; and a number of nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
