Obituary: John Thompson

John "Jack" Thompson, 87, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, after a long illness. He was born April 6, 1925, in West Newton, Pa., the eldest son of the late John Thompson and Ann (Eberhart) Thompson.

In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater as an electrician's mate first class on the destroyer U.S.S. McNair.

After the war he moved to Iowa, where he married his first wife, Donna Thompson, then to California, where he attended college and went to work for Market Basket supermarkets. He moved to Dolan Springs, Ariz., in 1971 with his second and current wife of 46 years, Pauline. They opened Our Market grocery store, which they owned for 23 years. Upon retirement they moved to Valle Vista, Ariz., and finally to Kingman.

Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and exploring the mountains and desert foothills.

He is survived by his brother, James Thompson of Paraguay, South America; his first wife, Donna of Kingman; his wife and long-time caregiver, Pauline Thompson of Kingman; his three daughters, Terri Thompson of New York City, Judy French of Kingman and Stacy Bowers of Las Vegas; his son, John Thompson of Portland, Maine; two stepdaughters, Deanna McDaniel of Webb City, Mo., and Deborah Dokter of Chino, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

This is only a short synopsis of his long and fruitful life.

He will be missed by his family and many friends who will remember him with a smile.
