Arthritis expert joins KRMC staff
KINGMAN - Kingman Regional Medical Center welcomed rheumatologist Nisha Manek to its staff in May. She will meet a long-standing need in the community for a local rheumatologist to diagnose and treat patients with arthritis and other rheumatic diseases.
Rheumatic diseases are often complex, affecting the joints, muscles, bones and sometimes internal organs.
Manek received her medical degree from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She went on to practice internal medicine in the teaching hospitals in London and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. She is also a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Manek completed her specialty training in rheumatology at Stanford University in California and joined the division of rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. She practiced at the Mayo Clinic for more than 11 years.
Manek was instrumental in setting new standards of care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory arthritic diseases.
Manek received the Bravewell scholarship and was the first rheumatologist to complete a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona. Manek considers the whole person and uses innovative approaches for getting the best results for her patients.
She has published in textbooks and premier scientific journals on the subjects of arthritis, osteoarthritis and arthritis care and research. Additionally, she is an international speaker and frequent media guest. She has contributed her expertise to USA today, Web-MD, Arthritis Today, and other arthritis self-management magazines.
In 2011, Dr. Manek moved from Rochester to Scottsdale to work with Dr. William A. Tiller, professor emeritus of Stanford University Department of Material Science and Engineering, who studying the role of the human mind in healing.
Manek began practicing in Kingman on May 22 and will see patients in the clinic setting and the hospital every other week while she continues her mentorship with Dr. Tiller in Scottsdale. Her office, Kingman Rheumatology, is located at the Mountain Shadow Family Medicine Building, 2226 Hualapai Mountain Road in Kingman. She accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare and AHCCCS.
