Four arrests, one assault, one shotgun - and tear gas
KINGMAN - An investigation into a shots fired call on Tuesday led to a tense standoff Wednesday in Kingman when two men, one of them reportedly armed with a sawed-off shotgun, barricaded themselves in a home with two young children inside.
Members of the Mohave County Sheriff's Tactical Operations Unit and hostage negotiators were deployed to the home in the 4000 block of Irving Avenue at about 4:20 p.m. after deputies learned both men inside refused to exit the home and that children were also inside.
Ultimately, the two four-year-old children were safely removed from the home through a window and four people were arrested on a host of felony charges, including child endangerment and assault on a police officer.
According to a statement from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, the standoff began after deputies went to the home to investigate the previous day's shots fired call.
Nobody was at the home on Tuesday, but responding deputies found blood near the front door. Deputies on Wednesday spotted one of the vehicles the caller said left the scene Tuesday in the backyard and subsequently learned it was reported stolen.
The deputies were advised that two men - Nolan Gene Martin, 36, and 19-year-old Manuel Ricardo Duvall - were in the home and that Martin was armed with a shotgun.
They spoke with Gina Maria Denubilo, 32, outside the home. She told deputies the men were not there with her and the children.
Deputies obtained a search warrant and it was discovered the men were inside with the children and refused to exit.
Members of the Tactical Operations Unit were able to remove the children and hostage negotiators continued to speak with the men.
Duvall eventually exited the home and was taken into custody.
The unit used tear gas at about 5 p.m. to force Martin to exit the home through a broken window. He was taken into custody without further incident.
After the trio was in custody, Jimmy Lee Clouse, 58, of Kingman arrived at the scene and began yelling at the law enforcement officers present, striking a detective in the face and breaking his glasses.
Martin was arrested on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Clark County, Nevada, and felony child abuse and endangerment. The Clark County warrant regards a robbery charge.
Duvall was arrested on three misdemeanor warrants out of Kingman Municipal Court as well as felony child abuse and endangerment for remaining inside the barricaded home and not assisting the two children.
Denubilo was taken into custody on felony child abuse and endangerment and for felony hindering prosecution for reportedly lying to officers.
Clouse was arrested for felony aggravated assault on a peace officer and misdemeanor criminal damage.
The investigations into the report of shots fired the previous day and the stolen vehicle are ongoing. Deputies believe the blood on the floor found Tuesday was due to someone getting cut on broken glass. In any event, no gunshot victims have been located.
Deputies recovered the sawed-off shotgun at the scene.
