Quilts of Valor
Annual Volunteer Effort Honors Veterans' Service
The Kingman Quilter's Guild held its Fifth Annual Quilts of Valor Saturday at the Mohave Museum of History and Arts.
Guild members volunteer to create quilts to give to veterans, with love, in honor of their service and sacrifices. They "humbly offer these quilts to our brave military personnel in the hope that the quilt will bring physical comfort and a visual reminder of our 'thank you' for all that our veterans have done to protect our nation's freedom." Thirty-two quilts were given to veterans this year.
The U.S. Marine Corp League Color Guard Detachment 887 presented the colors. Chaplain Sisto Sandoval offered a prayer, Pat Campagnuolo and Luigi Villani provided vocal solos, Diane Schreiber provided piano accompaniment, and Loren Larson, captain of the Patriot Guard Riders, led a circle of honor.
The PGR also accompanied Vietnam veteran Mike Pearson to the museum before the ceremonies in honor of his service. Several of the veterans spoke about how meaningful and touching it was to them to receive the quilts - and the thanks.
