In loving memory of B. Cathern (Laymon) Gates, who went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at KRMC. Cathern was born April 6, 1929, in El Dorado, Kan., to Teddy Roosevelt Laymon and Ruby Geraldine (Throckmorton) Laymon. She was the second child and first daughter of seven children.

She married Perry Russell Gates on July 26, 1950, in Virginia, then moved back to El Dorado and had four daughters - Debbie, Kathy, Karen and Julie. They moved to Kingman in 1966, followed by a two-year stay from 1967-1969 in Auberry, Calif. The family returned to Kingman in 1969 and Cathern had her fifth daughter, Mary, and Kingman is where Cathern stayed untill her graduation home. Cathern was a member of Calvary Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Russell, the love of her life. She was also preceded by daughter Kathy (Gates) Montoya, her father Teddy, mother Ruby Laymon, and brothers Edward, Clinton, Max and Jerry Laymon.

She is survived by her brother, Jim Laymon of Miami, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Ray of Council Grove, Kan.; four daughters, Debbie Smith, Julie (Ernie) Tapia, Mary Gates of Kingman and Karen (Greg) Johnson of Englewood, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was always a lady with a smile and brought joy to all who knew her. She now waits for us in heaven with our dad and sister.

There will be a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in Calvary Baptist Church, 3575 Shaeffer Ave.
