Chairman Bruce Carter, middle, and others involved in the Kingman Area Books Are Magic festival launched the 2014 edition Tuesday when the City Council endorsed the annual event. KABAM kicks off early next month. A partnership between the Mohave Library Alliance and the city's Parks and Recreation Department, the festival is designed to promote not just literacy, but the love of books and the joy of reading. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 at Metcalfe Park. Other events include "Experience the Magic of Live Storytelling" from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 3 at the Mohave County Library and a poetry slam from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 4 in front of Beale Street Brews and The Cellar Door downtown. Authors and poets will visit local schools prior to the festival. For more information, or to get involved, visit
