The Democratic Party of Mohave County initiated a Flag Pole for Metcalfe Park fundraiser last fall. The absence of an American Flag in the park became evident when the Democratic Women's Club of Kingman invited the community to a Flag Day Celebration last June. The Kingman Parks and Recreation Department informed the club that there was no flag in the park. The existing pole and flag had to be removed due to age and vulnerability about 15 years ago and it had never been replaced. We felt that the park should have a flag. Joe Longoria, chairman of the MCDCC, went before the City Council last year to ask that the Democratic Party be allowed to replace the flagpole in Metcalfe Park. The council gave him permission to erect a new flagpole under the direction of Meersman. We asked Kingman to join our efforts to raise the funds for the flagpole, and we reached our goal and presented the city with a check for $1,575 recently.
