Letter: The birth of the KKK
I'm always surprised when Democrats seem clueless that the KKK was founded as the terrorist arm of the Democrat party, their goal being to terrorize both black and white Republicans. And terrorize they did, lynchings being their preference. Between 1882 and 1964, they lynched 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites.
In "A Short History of Reconstruction," liberal historian and Columbia Professor Dr Eric Foner sets the record straight. .
In the 1800s, Dems never hid their KKK connections. Grand Wizard Nathan Forrest wrote in the Klan's magazine (Kourier - 1928) "I have never voted for any man who was not a regular Democrat ... my father ... the same ... my Grandfather was head of the KKK in reconstruction days ... my g-grandfather ... a life-long Democrat ... my great great-grandfather ... one of the founders of the Democrat party.
Foner says the KKK was "founded in 1866 as a Tennessee social club, spread across south, launching a 'reign of terror' against Republican leaders, both black and white."
The committed horrific acts. Professor Foner describes "Jack Dupree, brutally murdered, the Monroe County, Miss., Republican club president. Assailants cut his throat, disemboweled him in front of his wife who had just given birth to twins."
Jackson County, Fla., 150 slain, "including black leaders/Jewish merchant Fleischman because he dealt fairly with black customers" (Pg 186).
Ninety-four percent of Republicans voted for 14th Amendment, no Democrats voted for it. Gov. Hampton (D-SC) inserted clause in 1868 Democratic platform declaring Congress' civil rights laws unconstitutional. They then honored Grand Wizard Nathan Forrest.
In 1957, Democrat Gov. Faubus refused entry to blacks in white schools. President Eisenhower sent in 82nd Airborne Div to Little Rock. Three years later, he signed the GOP Civil RIghts Act after five days of filibusters by 20 Democrats.
In 1964, Democrat President LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act after former Klansman Robert Byrd's 14 hour filibuster - 22 Democrats voted against, including Al Gore Sr.
The next time a liberal brings up Obama's skin color and calls you a racist, remind them of their own history, would you please?
