Kingman, Lee Williams high schools team up for musical
Antiope (left), played by Julianna Smith, confronts Theseus (right), played by Chandler Zimmerman. The two play the lead characters in "By Jupiter" by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers.
"By Jupiter" opens at 7 p.m. today at the Kingman High School auditorium. Shows will run on Friday and Saturday as well. Doors open at 6 p.m. General admission is $7, $5 for children and students.
Sarah Kucharek, theater teacher at Lee Williams High School and the show's director, said this about the production:
"This retelling of Hercules' labor to retrieve the infamous girdle of Diana was one of Rodgers and Hart's best-loved productions, but due to Musicians' Union strikes, a soundtrack album was not made for more than 20 years. We are glad to bring this loved, but little-known, play to our Kingman audiences, and share the comedy which first endeared it to viewers when it premiered in 1942."
The show features 26 cast members, 16 crew, and 18 musicians in the pit band. Students come from both Kingman High School and Lee Williams High School. This is the second year the two schools have collaborated for theatre productions.
