Obituary: Betty Jean Huckabee
Betty Jean Huckabee, 80, passed away at her home on Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, in Kingman. Betty was born July 3, 1935, to Leonard and Mildred Hulslander in Crook, Colo. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Dillon and Loveland, Colo. She moved to Florence, Colo., in 1996, spending 13 years of her retirement before moving to Kingman for the past seven years.
Betty is blessed with a large family, having nine siblings, survived by her sisters Bernice Keime, Elnora Stewart, Arta Wray (Ronnie) and Karma Jones (Bill); her four children, son Calvin Carter III (Sandy), daughter Connie Smith, daughter Cora Hudson and daughter Jackie Valdez (Steve); lovely grandchildren, Danny Putman, Calvin Carter IV, Carrie Mumma, Lee Sehestedt, John Hudson, Coddy Adams, Rustin Adams, Derex Adams, Matthew Valdez, Alisha Valdez, Callee Jo Burke-Valdez; and three great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered dearly by her extended family, TJ Charlson, Robin Charlson, Heath Charlson, Dyana Archuleta (Troy) Archuleta, Damion Rodriquez, Austin Yates and Justin Yates. She dedicated her life to her family and grandchildren over all the years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Huckabee; and brothers Kenneth Hulslander, Dee Hulslander, Len Hulslander, Harry Hulslander and Thomas Hulslander.
Betty was a foster parent for many years; she loved helping others and was always there to lend a helping hand. To some she will always be known as Grandma Betty. Through her baking of Texas sheet cake, banana bread, and cookies and candy at Christmas, she was always there to brighten a day. She dearly enjoyed spending time in her garden and planting flowers. She was always sharing her green thumb with those not so green. She loved spending time with family and friends, family dinners and a good card game. Betty enjoyed music, dancing many miles throughout her life. Betty always taught us to pay it forward, take care of each other and to live each day to the fullest.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 5, 2015, in Loveland Colo., at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 8426 S. Highway 287, Fort Collins, CO, 80525. Reception will be held at family member's home in Thornton, Colo.
