Son arrested for allegedly beating up father
KINGMAN - A 43-year-old man was arrested Friday after he allegedly punched his father several times in a dinnertime dispute.
Joe Allen Hughes of Kingman was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault after Mohave County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the 4100 block of Pinal Street just before 6 p.m.
A 64-year-old man whose face was bleeding was sitting outside on the front porch. His right eye was swollen and cut and doctors at Kingman Regional Medical Center later determined the man also sustained a broken nose.
The victim and his wife told deputies that the men had been drinking and when they were having dinner, Hughes allegedly became angry and punched his father in the face about six times. What might have sparked the violence was not explained.
The couple said Hughes left the home armed with a handgun. Deputies located him a short while later in the area of Powell Avenue and Benton Street. He was taken into custody without incident after deputies seized the .22-caliber weapon.
