Lee Williams runners advance to state

KINGMAN - The Lee Williams High boys cross country team held on for eighth place out 17 teams at the Division III, Section II championship race Friday in Holbrook. That finish advances the Volunteers to this upcoming Saturday's D-III State Championship race at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.

Tuba City won the Section II title with 62 points. Lee Williams finished with 224, three ahead of Cottonwood Mingus and 37 points ahead of 10th-place Blue Ridge, which did not advance to state.

Senior Brendon Allred led the Vols with a 19th-place finish, running the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 32.7 seconds. Peyton Cardiff (25), Zach Moyd (54), Zack Tempert (59), and Tyson Spencer (67) rounded out the scoring for Lee Williams.

The Kingman High boys team took 15th place. This team did not have a single experienced runner at the beginning of the season.

Lee Williams girls were 15th and Kingman High's girls came in 16th.

In Division IV, Section I, Kingman Academy boys came in 13th. KAHS did not have enough female runners to qualify a team score.
