Soroptimists ask applicants to live their dreams

KINGMAN - The Kingman Soroptimists are seeking applications for their 43rd annual "Live Your Dream" award.

The award was created for women who serve as the primary wage earner for their family and are seeking financial assistance for education or training. It and is part of a national Live Your Dream Award program put on by Soroptimist. The organization gives out $1.6 million in awards every year.

Local applicants will be competing for a $2,500 cash grant for first place and a $1,500 cash grant for second place. The funds can be used to offset costs for education, including: tuition, books, childcare, carfare or other education-related expenses.

The first place recipient will also advance to the Soroptimist Golden West Region Level, where they will compete for an additional $5,000.

Recipients will be notified in December, with an awards ceremony held in March.

Linda Miller, chairwoman for the Live your Dream committee, said that many of the award recipients have gone on to become nurses in the community.

Those interested in the grant have up to Nov. 30 to apply. Applications are available by contacting Shay Givans at (928)279-6761 or at shay@century21kingman.com.
