Reacher returns in Child's latest
Make Me - Lee Child (432 pages)
"Why is this town called Mother's Rest?" That's all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It's a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal (Goodreads.com). This is the 20th novel in the Jack Reacher series.
Dance of the Bones - J.A. Jance (368 pages)
Years ago, Amos Warren, a prospector, was gunned down out in the desert and Sheriff Brandon Walker made the arrest in the case. Now, the retired Walker is called in when the alleged killer, John Lassiter, refuses to accept a plea deal that would release him from prison with time served. Lassiter wants Brandon and The Last Chance to find Amos's "real" killer and clear his name. Sixteen hundred miles to the north in Seattle, J.P. Beaumont is at loose ends after the Special Homicide Investigation Team, affectionately known as S.H. - you get the idea - has been unexpectedly and completely disbanded. When Brandon discovers that there are links between Lassiter's case and an unsolved case in Seattle, he comes to Beau for help (Goodreads.com). This is the 22nd novel in the J.P. Beaumont series.
The Keeper - David Baldacci (448 pages)
Vega Jane was always told no one could leave the town of Wormwood. She was told there was nothing outside but the Quag, a wilderness filled with danger and death. And she believed it - until the night she stumbled across a secret that proved that everything she knew was a lie (Goodreads.com). This is the 2nd novel in the Vega Jane series.
The Age of Adaline (2015) - Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Harrison Ford
A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into (IMDb.com). Lively stepped into this role to replace Katherine Heigl, and even watching trailers with Lively in it, I am still uncertain if she can carry such a role. Reviewers love her, however, and praise the love story for the uniqueness it tries to achieve.
American Heist (2014) - Hayden Christensen, Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster
James owes his life to his older brother, Frankie, after taking the rap for a crime they committed together. While Frankie served time, James worked to turn his life around, got a steady job and began courting his former girlfriend Emily. Now, Frankie is released and back on the streets with no money and no place to go (IMDb.com). Another heist film? There's no shame in passing this one up. Viewers at the Toronto International Film Festival walked out on it, even with a cast of Brody and Brewster headlining.
Super Mario Maker (Wii U)
Nintendo gives Mario fans all the tools needed to make their own Super Mario levels. Gamers get to use assets from all of Mario's side-scrolling adventures and build levels to share online and play at home. Younger gamers are growing up with some spectacular creation games such as "Minecraft" and "Terraria." Giving those same gamers the tools to create levels and experiment with actual game design is a smart choice by Nintendo, and will surely attract young gamers and veterans alike. Definitely play this one with some friends, as you can assign your own sounds to characters and actions via a microphone in the Gamepad.
