Lady Volunteers top Mohave; they need help to advance

KINGMAN - Freshman Chania Scott scored seven of her 11 points and came up with a key steal in the fourth quarter to help Lee Williams get past Mohave in an important Division III, Section VI contest for the Lady Vols Tuesday at LWHS, 41-35.

Lee Williams (9-9, 2-3) trailed 33-32 minutes into the final quarter, which began tied at 28-28. The Lady Vols separated from Mohave (3-12, 0-5) with an 8-0 run down the stretch to pull out the win.

Sadie Snay also had 11 points for the Lady Vols. Snay pulled down eight rebounds, and Scott recorded six. Marli Lauck scored nine points, Madi Arave contributed seven, and Jackie Millim connected on a 3-pointer.

Ironically, Lee Williams is going to have to rely on Mohave's help if it is going to make the section tournament that begins Tuesday in Buckeye. The Lady Vols are fighting down to the wire with Youngker (11-6, 2-3) and Shadow Ridge (1-4) for the fourth and final spot in the tournament.

Should all three teams end the section season tied at 2-3, then Youngker will get the nod by having the best winning percentage in division games. Mohave hosts Shadow Ridge tonight, and if Mohave knocks off the Stallions, then Lee Williams should get the nod because it beat Youngker in overtime Jan. 15, 50-46.

Both Lee Williams and Youngker have monumental tasks ahead of them that could change that scenario. Youngker hosts Buckeye (12-4, 4-0) tonight and Lee Williams plays at Kingman (15-0) Friday. A win by either of those teams in the final games of the season could clinch the bid for the winning team. Should both win, Lee Williams gets the spot.
