Warmer weather expected; maybe the groundhog was right
In Pennsylvania on Tuesday, famous groundhog and alleged weather predictor Punxsutawney Phil reportedly did not see his shadow, which legend holds portends an early spring.
It probably didn't feel that way in much of the country this week, as heavy snows and fierce storms ruled the day in the Midwest and South.
Around Kingman, the week started with snow and ice (and thunder and lightning), and temperatures have been frigid, especially in the morning's wee hours. Snow was still visible on the mountains and in spaces protected from the sun, as these photos from the Dolan Springs area show.
But maybe ol' Phil is on to something. Forecasts call for highs near 60 degrees by Saturday and Sunday - and nighttime temperatures that are supposed to be above freezing.
