KINGMAN - A proposal to allow conex containers in areas of the city zoned for commercial businesses will be heard tonight when the Kingman City Council's Planning and Zoning Commission meets.
The containers are currently prohibited outside of the industrial zones, but the Council decided to revisit the ban in response to controversies involving businesses located within commercial zoning known as C-2 - and the city's own use of the containers, which are normally used for shipping cargo, either by rail, truck or ship - in the same zone.
If planners approve the text amendment, the matter would go back to the Council for final approval.
If approved, it is likely the Council will limit the number of containers per property and require fencing or some other means to shield the container from street views.
Tonight's meeting starts at 6 p.m. inside Council chambers in City Hall, 310 N. Fourth St.
