KINGMAN - The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a high wind warning which is in effect from 8 a.m. today to 3 a.m. Tuesday. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.
Winds are forecast to increase this morning, peak in the afternoon and decrease Monday night. West to southwest winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts 50 to 65 mph are expected. Gusts could exceed 70 mph in the Spring Mountains west of Las Vegas.
Travel may be difficult due to strong crosswinds and poor visibility due to blowing dust and sand, especially along the Interstate 15 corridor. Temporary structures may be damaged or destroyed, the NWS noted, and trees and power lines may be blown down.
Drivers of motorcycles and high-profile vehicles should be alert to the danger of these winds. The NWS advises using headlights and extreme caution in areas of blowing dust and sand.
In addition, the NWS suggests securing temporary structures, trash cans, lawn furniture and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects.
