KINGMAN – A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas with a fractured femur, and a 23-year-old who allegedly caused the injury was arrested, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department.

Matthew Lawrence Wright was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, aggravated assault causing temporary disfigurement, and child abuse, all felonies, the sheriff’s office reported.

The investigation began Sunday evening when deputies responded to Kingman Regional Medical Center in reference to the 2-year-old’s injury.

The baby’s mother brought him into the hospital, saying the child fell while being watched by Wright, her boyfriend. Deputies also observed bruises on the side of the baby’s neck. He was subsequently airlifted to Las Vegas, the sheriff’s office reported.

The Department of Child Safety took custody of the baby after he was medically released Wednesday. At about 4:45 p.m., Wright was interviewed by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, and he admitted his involvement, the sheriff’s office said.
