KINGMAN – If you’re gunning for that blue ribbon, you better get your fair entries in ASAP.

The Mohave County Fair is Sept. 14 – 17, and open exhibit entry forms are due by midnight Friday. Open exhibits include art, food, photography, hobbies and crafts, and Mohave County Fair Association Secretary Debbie Cleaveland is the go-to-gal for entries.

“If you can it, jam it, grow it or sew it, I’m that department,” she said.

Nearly 4,500 open exhibit entries were submitted last year. As of right now, 600 entry forms have been turned in for the 2017 fair. There are 16 departments in the competitive entry and exhibits categories for adults and children, and numerous lots in those categories. Cleaveland said most people know the entry rules, but for newbies this year, pay close attention.

“You’re only allowed to have one exhibit per lot, per category,” she said. “For example, if you knit baby booties, you can only enter one pair of baby booties. If you also knit a baby sweater, you can enter that in another lot.”

Even if your entries aren’t finished, they need to be listed on the entry form.

The entries can be brought in for exhibit Sept. 8 – 10.

Entry forms for other categories are due at midnight on the following dates:

Livestock and Small Stock (chickens, rabbits and reptiles, for example), Horse Show and Dog Show – Sept. 1.

Gymkhana – Sept. 8.

Animal day of show entries are due Sept. 15.

The fair always needs volunteers. If you’re interested, contact the fairgrounds at 928-753-2636.

“I’ve had 32 volunteers show up,” Cleaveland said.

Pre-sale all-day carnival ride passes are $20 and available at the fairgrounds office. Those passes are $30 at the gate. Cleaveland is currently out of passes, but she’s ordering more.

“Sew It, Show It” fair rule and entry books were made available to the public via mail and Daily Miner supplements last week. Entry forms are also available online at Click on the Mohave County Fair link, go to the specific category, print out an entry form, fill it out and bring to the Mohave County Fairgrounds at 2600 Fairgrounds Blvd.
