YAVAPAI COUNTY – A Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputy, who confronted a woman with a gun pointed at him Sunday, held his fire and managed to arrest her without shooting, said Dwight D’Evelyn, YCSO spokesman.

The deputy was responding to a call reporting a woman yelling and waving a gun from the balcony of a home in the 3000 block of Chippewa Drive at about 4:15 p.m.

The deputy did not see her immediately, but then she “exited the driveway of the home in a very agitated state, holding an object in her hand,” D’Evelyn said.

“She then took a combative stance and pointed what the deputy now believed was a firearm in his direction,” D’Evelyn said, and the deputy took cover, but did not fire.

He kept his gun trained on the suspect, Anastasia Sinclair, 60, as she waved her arms in the air and then dropped her gun.

Sinclair then sat down on the curb, but as the deputy began to approach, she stood up and headed toward the house.

She reached for the gun on the ground, telling the deputy, “Please shoot me,” D’Evelyn said.

She was restrained and handcuffed, and then the deputy saw that she had been holding a pellet gun.

“Sinclair’s husband then came out of the home and indicated he and his wife were arguing about their pending divorce prior to the arrival of deputies,” D’Evelyn said. “Sinclair had been drinking and threatened him throughout the ordeal.”

Two other family members told deputies they thought Sinclair was going to shoot them and the deputies.

Sinclair was booked into the Camp Verde jail and released the following day for a mental health evaluation. Wednesday, the County Attorney verified the filing of charges on the matter; they include aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated assault per domestic violence, and disorderly conduct per domestic violence.
