DOLAN SPRINGS – One man was killed and another injured after their vehicles collided on Pierce Ferry Road Thursday morning.

According to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Trish Carter, deputies responded to the accident near milepost 7 at about 11 a.m., where a white Suzuki station wagon and a gold Dodge truck collided.

Lake Mohave Ranchos Fire Department medics treated two men and pronounced the driver of the Suzuki, Joe Kent Dobbins, 85, of Dolan Springs, dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, William Frakes, 73, of Dolan Springs, suffered injuries. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

An investigation determined the Suzuki was traveling eastbound on Pierce Ferry Road when it drifted into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Dodge traveling westbound. The Dodge was reportedly unable to stop and the vehicles crashed.

A witness stopped and stayed at the scene until medics arrived. Frakes was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center by ambulance where it was determined he sustained a fractured ankle, facial lacerations and bruises. Dobbins had be extricated from the Suzuki.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors at this time and there is an on-going investigation. Autopsy results to determine if Dobbins had a medical issue prior to the collision are pending. Neither men were wearing seatbelts. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
