Lawyer: Pima County justice of peace indicted on tax charges

TUCSON (AP) – A lawyer representing Pima County Justice of Peace Keith Bee says his client has been indicted on federal charges of filing false statements on his business' tax returns.

The Arizona Daily Star quotes attorney Michael Piccarreta as saying Bee will plead not guilty to the charges.

The indictment hasn't yet been made public.

Piccarreta says the charges pertain to Bee Line Bus Transportation.

He says Bee didn't catch mistakes made on the returns by a tax preparer.

Bee retired Friday as a justice of the peace.

Piccarreta says his client intended to retire this year, but did so on Friday to focus on clearing his name.

Bee is a former state senator who was appointed to the justice of the peace post in 2007 and held it through elections thereafter.
