TOPOCK – Authorities say a quick-thinking eyewitness who saw a vehicle crash through a cement barrier, flip and land on its roof into the water at a marina in Topock pulled the 68-year-old driver free from the car to safety Monday afternoon.

Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Topock 66 Restaurant and Marina soon after dispatch received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m.

Deputies determined the female driver was trying to park her vehicle and stepped on the gas instead of the brake, which caused the vehicle to accelerate and crash through the barriers.

The bystander entered the flooded vehicle and cut the seatbelt before removing the driver from the vehicle. No one else was in the vehicle.

The driver suffered only minor injuries, and deputies ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.
