Prep Tennis: Lady Vols defeat Kingman for 3rd straight win

KINGMAN – It was a busy Friday afternoon of tennis at Kingman High School.

The Lee Williams High School tennis teams made the short trip to face their city rival and came away with a pair of 9-0 sweeps.

The Lady Vols had little issue in their third win of the season as the closest match was at No. 2 singles as Paige Cody tallied a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Kingman’s Alyssa Cedillo.

At No. 1 singles, Lee Williams freshman Macie Wilson dispatched Kingman’s Cassidy Abramson by scores of 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 singles player Faith Nielsen tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kingman’s Charlotte Stockstill.

At No. 4, Gabriela Villar defeated Kingman’s Alyssa Soto by scores of 6-1, 6-1.

In other action, Lee Williams’ Arden Schickner bested Kingman’s Zaylee Royer (6-1, 6-0), while Abbey Seavey notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kingman’s Kaliegh Ford.

The Lady Vols (3-0) make the trip to Cactus (0-2) at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Kingman (0-2, 0-1 Division III, Section VI) is at Sedona Red Rock (0-1, 0-1) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Volunteers also won their third straight match of the season in a 9-0 sweep of Kingman High.

At No. 1, Lee Williams’ Kade Juelfs beat Kingman’s David Hammond by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

Up next was No. 2 Jordon Freeman knocking off Kingman’s Jason Marquez (6-1, 6-1) and No. 3 Carson Taylor notching a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kingman’s Gavin Winebarger.

Lee Williams’ No. 4 singles player Chase Camacho won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) over Kingman’s Giovanni Suarez-Castro.

At No. 5, Lee Williams freshman Logan Preston beat Kingman’s Kaden Gabbard by scores of 6-3, 6-1 and Joseph Walker rounded out action with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kingman’s Jason Riley at No. 6 singles.

The Vols (3-0) are back in action at 3 p.m. Monday with a road trip to Raymond S. Kellis (0-2), while Kingman (0-2, 0-1 Division III, Section VI) travels to Sedona Red Rock (0-1, 0-1) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
