Prep Roundup: Tigers split doubleheader with Nortland Prep
KINGMAN – With one swing of the bat, Isaac Bridges helped give the Kingman Academy High School baseball team a 7-5 win over Flagstaff’s Northland Prep in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Kingman High School.
The Tigers entered the top of the seventh inning facing a tie game, but Bridges made sure that changed with his two-run single.
It was Bridges’ lone hit of the game, while Adam Chastain finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Ryan Hurley and Korey Hines also each drove in a run.
Braden Judd picked up the win after yielding no earned runs on two hits in three innings of relief.
Academy dropped the opener 7-5 after giving up two runs in the top of the ninth.
Kaden Bean and Joe Sanfillipo each tallied two hits, while Ryan Hurley finished with two RBIs.
The Tigers (2-3, 1-0 3A West Region) travel to Kingman High (1-0) at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Academy 10, Northland Prep 5
At KHS, the Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the season with a convincing 10-5 victory over the Lady Spartans in game one of a doubleheader.
Ammerissa Benson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Kiley Holloway also had three hits and drove in two runs.
Oreauna Holland and Maliah Gardner rounded out the top performers with two RBIs each.
Abbie Bean picked up the win after allowing four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game effort.
Academy lost the nightcap 19-4.
The Lady Tigers (1-4, 0-1 3A West Region) make the short trek across town to face Kingman High (1-1) at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
