Column | County Corner: Tax deed auction set for March

Greetings and happy holidays to Mohave County!

First of all, I thank you. I am humbled and honored to serve as your treasurer for the next four years. My office is running smoothly and my staff is highly skilled, seasoned, cross-trained and here to serve your needs.

Now, on to business.

For those of you looking to buy property, the board of supervisors has tentatively scheduled its next tax deed auction for March 2021. Over 7,000 parcels are currently slated to be auctioned. The tax deed auction is different from the annual February tax lien sale. In a tax deed auction, the property itself is sold. The highest bidder wins and the tax deed legally transfers ownership to the winning bidder.

As of Dec. 4, the board of supervisors has yet to finalize Mohave County’s next auction date, minimum starting bid and list of parcels. If you plan to participate, the most up-to-date information on the tax deed auction can be found on the Clerk of the Board’s webpage.

If you have not received a property tax statement, they are available on the county website.

As a reminder, the second-half property tax due date is March 1 and these property taxes become delinquent after May 3 (postmarks accepted). My office is currently open during its regular business hours Monday through Friday. With the continued presence of COVID-19 and the recent rise in county cases, there are several options for property owners to make tax payment with or without direct contact. Property taxes may be paid online, by phone by calling Point and Pay at 855-814-6451, by mail, or in-person at the county building. Payment drop box locations are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Bullhead City, Kingman and Lake Havasu City at the below addresses:

– Bullhead City: 1130 Hancock St.

– Kingman: 700 W. Beale Street

– Lake Havasu City: 2001 College Drive, Suite 93

Best to you and your families. I wish you a safe, healthy and prosperous 2021!
