Human remains located west of Oatman

KINGMAN – Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Search and Rescue located the remains of a 77-year-old man near Boundary Cone Road west of Oatman on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

MCSO wrote in a news release that early in the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 2 the agency was contacted by a group of recreationalists who had been four-wheeling in an area off Boundary Cone Road.

During a previous trip months ago, they had befriended a 77-year-old man who had been camping in the area while collecting rocks. They gave him food and water, and continued their trip.

Upon going out to the area again Tuesday morning, the group came across their friend’s campsite to find him missing, while his personal belongings and gear remained.

Deputies and Search and Rescue responded and began a search. Early Wednesday, the MCSO human remains detection K9 team joined the search and located the missing male deceased nearby.

The remains were transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner. The man’s identity and cause of death are under investigation.
