Mohave County Sheriff investigating fatal shooting in Golden Shores
KINGMAN – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, May 26 in Golden Shores that resulted in the death of Michael Maletta.
MCSO wrote in a news release that at 6:14 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Beach Drive in Golden Shores in reference to a weapons offense.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased adult male, identified as Maletta, inside the home who had been shot.
During the investigation it was determined that Charles Haas, a tenant of the residence, was involved in an altercation with the deceased.
During the altercation, Maletta is alleged to have confronted Haas about financial disagreements and attacked Haas using brass knuckles.
Haas, who had a firearm on his person, held the firearm in his hand. According to MCSO, Maletta left the room claiming he was going to get his firearm before returning moments later and assaulting Haas once more.
At some point, Maletta got behind Haas and reportedly grabbed him by the hair and threatened to snap Haas’ neck. Haas then discharged his firearm, striking Maletta twice.
Maletta was fatally wounded.
The case is still under investigation and will be sent to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review upon completion of the investigation.
