Kingman Academy rolls to 3-0 win over Kingman in volleyball
KINGMAN – Kingman Academy of Learning High School won the volleyball battle of Kingman on Tuesday, Aug. 7, notching a lopsided 3-0 win in a match against outmatched Kingman High School.
Academy, which had a decided height and experience advantage, scored the first 18 points of the first set to set the stage for what was to come – an easy 25-3, 25-4, 25-8 win over their crosstown rivals.
Most of Kingman’s points came off bad serves by the Lady Tigers, who improved to 3-1 on the season with the win under head coach Annette McCord. Kingman slipped to 0-3 under head coach Tiffany Rowe.
Kingman Academy senior Morgan Garrison led the way with a game-high 16 kills, while senior Maliah Gardner filled the stat sheet with a game-high 37 assists, 31 digs and nine services aces for the Lady Tigers. Victoria Chapman led Academy with two blocks. Kingman stats were not available.
The Lady Bulldogs will have a chance to avenge the loss when they host Academy at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16.
Both squads are scheduled to play in the Mary Jo Goldey Invite at Lake Havasu High School on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kingman was also slated to host Lake Havasu High School on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Lee Williams 3, Cortez 0
KINGMAN – The Lee Williams High School girls volleyball team beat visiting Cortez 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
The Lady Volunteers won easily 25-6, 25-7, 25-14 to improved to 4-1 on the season. They also posted a 3-1 win at Coconino High School on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Cortez slipped to 0-3 with the loss.
