Letter | Kill the PRO Act
There are all sorts of legislative proposals out there right now, but the heavy-handed approach that some in Congress are taking – either through the Protecting the Right to Organize Act or by trying to force some of the bill’s extremely onerous fines through Congress via the current budget — is not something most Kingman business owners want.
Arizona U.S. Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly have been right to not go along with the vast majority of Senate Democrats in co-sponsoring the PRO Act. They should build upon this wise move by also opposing inclusion of the bill’s fines in the budget.
With $50,000 imposed for every single, even small-scale, violation, it’s easy to see how unions could effectively blackmail businesses here in Kingman into becoming unionized.
The PRO Act would violate worker privacy and abolish Arizona’s right-to-work protections, which could force workers to pay union dues as a condition of employment. Senators Sinema and Kelly should listen to the voices of Arizonans on this one and help ensure that the PRO Act does not pass in any form.
