Update: Man killed by car in Kingman Wednesday, March 9 was DPS officer

KINGMAN – An off-duty Arizona Department of Public Safety officer, Sgt. Leo R. Becenti Jr., died after being hit by a vehicle on Wednesday, March 9 in Kingman at about 10 p.m.
According to a Kingman Police Department news release, officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 1900 block of Dawes Avenue.
During the police response, it was reported a man at the scene had been hit by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, police and emergency medical personnel began treating a man for injuries received after he was struck by a vehicle on the roadway. He was later identified as Becenti, a resident of Kingman.
Becenti was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation determined Becenti was involved in an altercation with a resident in the 1900 block of Dawes Avenue.
At some point, Becenti fell into the street.
According to law enforcement, an oncoming car, driven by a 54-year-old Kingman woman, failed to stop before striking Becenti.
The investigation is ongoing.
