Column | When we broaden the definition of incitement, freedom suffers

Over the past week, we’ve heard the media pitching one particular narrative nonstop: the story that President Donald Trump’s rhetoric has resulted in increased violence. We heard it in the aftermath of a spate of attempted bombing attacks against Democratic targets by a Floridian nut job, and we heard it in the aftermath of a shooting attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue by an outspokenly anti-Trump white supremacist.

Community View | Teens that do this on Halloween smash more than pumpkins

Late one Halloween night some years ago I opened my front door to take the trash outside when I unexpectedly encountered a startled young teenage girl who was bending down to take one of my children’s jack-o-lanterns.

Column | Trump betrayed

Hell hath no fury – or fire – like a president scorned. After weeks of equivocating, President Trump has finally blasted the Saudi government for the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi and its subsequent cover-up.

Column | Democrats rediscover a losing formula

To all of my friends who happen to be Democrats – and I do have many – I offer the following: If you’re enjoying the presidential stylings of Donald J. Trump, keep doing exactly what you’re doing. And if you want to help cement the GOP majority in the Senate, don’t change a thing.

Letter | Vote ‘no’ on Prop. 127

It concerns me to know that the passage of Proposition 127 would cause Arizona’s energy cost to nearly double. I am disabled due to epilepsy and I don’t have an income. We survive on Social Security and VA compensation, so we would not be able to pay a higher energy bill.

Column | Watch for falling fall fests

Autumn in East Texas is usually ushered in by a yearly “cold snap,” meaning we have a few days in late September or early October when the daytime temperature drops below 90 and we don’t have to handle our seatbelt buckles with fireplace tongs.

Community View | Don’t give in to road rage

This older man was on his motorcycle, driving the speed limit, as I was, when I noticed a white car coming up very fast behind us in my rear view mirror, weaving in and out of cars, and at times, getting so close to cars it made me cringe.
