The Mohave County Sheriff's Office presented six Lifesaving Awards and three Valor Awards at the Mohave County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday. The Lifesaving awards went to (from left) Shelly Wolsey, 911 Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, for her vital role in persuading a suicidal caller to unload his weapon and await help; Deputy Sheriff Melvin Shane Thompson for assisting a good Samaritan in Dolan Springs who was shot; and deputies Denny Gaddis, Mike Gannuscio and Thompson for their role in the rescue attempt when two young Chloride girls tumbled on their ATV into an abandoned mineshaft. The final Lifesaving award went to Deputy Adrian Morrison for his successful attempt at preventing a suicide. Valor awards went to Sergeant Detective Randy McNally and former MCSO Detective Charlie Larison for being first on the scene at the Uptown Drug robbery in 2006. The other Valor award went to Sgt. Doug Schuster for coming under fire without cover when he attempted to apprehend an armed jail escapee in Lake Havasu City. Schuster returned fire and killed the escapee.
